An Adventurous Story

There once were three students who decided to devote their lives to becoming great Masters of the Martial Art. Each student had their own idea of the best way to reach their goal.

The first student decided that the best way to become a Master was to find all the great writings of the Masters throughout history and take them to a private place and commit them to memory. He felt that surely, this was the way to learn from the great Masters.

The second student had a different idea o the best way to become a Master. He decided to devote himself to observing all of the great living Masters that he could. He would travel the world and watch each one and learn by imitating them. He thought this was the best way to learn.

The third student thought long and hard before setting out on his quest to gain the knowledge of a Great Master. He too set out to observe to great Masters of the world, as the second student had, but with him he brought many of the same books that the first student had chosen to study. While he watched and learned from observing, he researched and studied the history and techniques of what he saw. Each day he combined what he read and what he saw and gained a true understanding of his art.

The first student became an expert with no life experience, the second student became an expert with no knowledge of the history of his art, while the third student took all that was available to him and, by making his quest for knowledge an Adventurous Journey studying, observing and living, became the Greatest Master of all.
